KHSTA Update 11/4/22

Not much new this week, just a few reminders…
All updates and attachments will be posted on the KHSTA website (www.khsta.org). Repeated announcements will be at the bottom of the update.

CONTRACT COMMITTEE - still need members
Today is the deadline to apply for the contract committee. We have no committee members as yet to serve from Arvin, Liberty, Vista, Vista West, Tierra del Sol, and for the District TOSAs. There are a few sites with only one representative; our hope was to have two so if there is a conflict, each site has at least one person at the meetings. If you would like to help your school by being on the committee, please contact Cathy Adams at cathy_adams@kernhigh.org.

FENTANYL/NARCAN -
Each member needs to make the choice that they are comfortable with in regards to being trained and administering Narcan. Training is not required for our members, except for nurses, at this time, nor have we heard anything about it being required in the future.

VETERANS’ DAY CELEBRATION
If you are a veteran, we’d like to highlight you in our November newsletter. Please share your info with this link: Veteran’s Day Link

SALARY ADVANCEMENT UNIT DEADLINE - NOV 30
Remember, if you have units to submit for salary advancement for this year, they must be submitted BY NOVEMBER 30. That day will be here faster than we know it, so make sure you get your units turned in!!

KHSTA OFFICE
The KHSTA Office is located at 2441 F Street between Pep Boys and KC’s Steakhouse. The building is most often used for Association meetings and trainings that occur during after school hours. There are no regular office/building employees, so there are no set office hours. You can contact us or your site rep through email or leave a message at (661)873-4087.

DEADLINES
Salary Advancement - transcripts must be turned in by November 30 (to count for next year)

REPEATED ANNOUNCEMENTS

DISTRICT EMAIL ADDRESSES
The district has emails set up if you have questions about various issues. If you have questions about your paycheck or need to update your address or other information, please email payroll@kernhigh.org. For course approval or questions about credits for salary advancement, email certificateddesk@kernhigh.org. If you are a new teacher and have questions about the induction program or clearing your credential, contact newteachersupport@kernhigh.org.

PAYCHECK ISSUES
If you are having issues with your paychecks being incorrect, please contact payroll (payroll@kernhigh.org). It is important that you check every pay stub for accuracy.

OPPORTUNITY FOR SALARY ADVANCEMENT UNITS
CTA is offering its members the opportunity to earn up to six university units (through Chico State) paid for by CTA based on your attendance at an in-person CTA weekend conference and/or by streaming continuing education courses through the CTA Virtual Pass to Online Learning. For information on the program, go to www.CTA.org/Credit. To see a list of eligible courses, go to www.CTA.org/VirtualPass. Remember our district has limits on certain types of courses, so be sure to submit the courses to HR for approval (certificateddesk@kernhigh.org) before taking them.

COVID LEAVE EXTENSION
Covid leave (the 80 hours for absences due to Covid) that was set to expire today have been extended until December 31, 2022. The leave has been extended, NOT reset (so if you’ve used any of those hours, they count in the 80 hour total). The first 40 hours can be taken to take care of Covid tests, taking care of a child while they are quarantining, etc. The second 40 hours are only accessible with a positive Covid test.

CTA CONFERENCES
We wanted to post the CTA Conferences that are available to our members. KHSTA will be offering scholarships to cover part of the cost (more information to follow). CTA also offers grants, but those need to be applied for quickly. For more information, go to https://www.cta.org/conferences-2.
New Educator-South (Dec 16 - 18)
Issues Conference (Jan 13 - 15)
Good Teaching-North (Feb 3 - 5)
Good Teaching-South (Mar 3 - 5)
Equity and Human Rights (Mar 17 - 19)

EDUCARE
If you don’t have a medical provider, consider using KHSTA’s Educare center. Their site can be reached through the KHSD website or https://www.kerneducare.org/.

THE STANDARD - you may not know…
If you have The Standard disability insurance, state law requires that you use your sick leave before the insurance kicks in, however, The Standard makes a daily payment WHILE YOU ARE USING YOUR SICK LEAVE. If you are going to be out for surgery, maternity leave, anything lasting more that two weeks, etc., but have enough sick leave to cover it, still contact Yvette Steptoe (323)219-7572 at The Standard to make sure you are accessing all the benefits of the plan.

HYDRO FLASK SITE STICKERS
Returning Association members should have received a special welcome back to school gift from KHSTA. If you haven’t received the blue 24 oz. laser engraved water flask, please let Julie Gibson know (Julie_gibson@kernhigh.org) and she will investigate that for you. You can get a sticker for each of the school sites where you have worked while in the KHSTA. The original school site stickers didn’t stick, so they can be replaced with waterproof stickers. Please complete the google form (https://bit.ly/3CPsgPA) and we will get those out to you as soon as possible.
