Discussion Of The Month February 2012: Merit Pay

In a recent interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe”, Secretary of Education Arne Duncan outlined his view that teachers who perform well deserve great salaries.

Merit pay is currently a hot issue for lawmakers and education stakeholders, with both sides of the political spectrum having ideas on how much and where government funding should be dispensed and to what extent teachers’ unions should have a role in making these decisions, writes Jeff Poor at the Daily Caller.

Bargaining Update!!

 

January, 27, 2012

On January 11th, the Association’s bargaining team met with the District’s team. On that day, we were able to iron out the remaining issues left on the table. The following day we were able to confirm that we had reached a tentative agreement. That agreement is a two-year deal with no reduction in salary and no out-of-pocket costs on our health insurance for both years. We believe we gained ground on several fronts and made no concessions.
